Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 29, 2026
Skipit helps you skip unwanted content (nudity, sex, and gore) on Netflix. This policy covers both the Skipit web app (getskipit.com) and the Skipit Chrome browser extension. One account works across the entire Skipit ecosystem.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create or sign in to an account, we receive account information from our authentication provider, Clerk. This may include your email address, first and last name, profile picture URL, Clerk user ID, and authentication status.
User-Generated Content
When you use Skipit, we store the timestamp submissions you create (scene start and end times, skip type), your votes on community skip groups (upvote or downvote), the skip groups connected to those votes, contribution source, timestamps for those actions, and your display username.
Preferences
We store your content skip preferences (nudity, sex, gore toggles) and related extension settings needed to provide your preferred skip experience.
Reputation & Activity
To maintain timestamp quality, we track the number of timestamps you've submitted (accepted and rejected), your voting activity, your reputation record, and your trust tier.
Browser Extension Data (Stored Locally)
The Chrome extension stores data locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. This includes your current Netflix tab state (video ID, active timestamps), skip preferences, and authentication session state. This data is used to authenticate you, detect the Netflix content you are using Skipit with, apply your preferences, and keep each Netflix tab independent.
Automatically Collected
We use Umami Analytics on the web app to understand basic product usage. This may include page views, referrers, browser and device details, and approximate geographic location where available. Our hosting providers may also process request metadata such as IP address, user agent, request path, timestamps, and error logs to operate, secure, debug, and protect the service.
Security and Abuse Prevention
We may process account IDs, IP addresses, user agents, request volume, routes accessed, authentication status, and similar technical signals to detect abuse, enforce rate limits, investigate suspicious activity, protect user accounts, and prevent unauthorized access to Skipit.
How We Use Your Information
- Provide and operate the skip timestamp service
- Authenticate your account across the web app and extension
- Display and apply community-verified skip timestamps
- Calculate reputation scores to maintain timestamp quality
- Protect Skipit from abuse, scraping, spam, fraud, and unauthorized API access
- Improve the service through privacy-conscious analytics
Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising. We share data only with the following service providers who process it on our behalf:
- Clerk for authentication and account management
- Supabase for database hosting (PostgreSQL)
- Umami for privacy-conscious web analytics
- TMDB for movie and TV show metadata only (no user data is sent to TMDB)
Data Storage & Security
- Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase
- All communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS
- Authentication tokens are managed by Clerk with automatic refresh
- The browser extension stores data locally using Chrome's storage API
- No database credentials are exposed to the browser extension
- Skipit will never ask you to copy authentication cookies, session tokens, session IDs, or browser storage values from Developer Tools
Your Rights & Data Deletion
You can request account deletion by contacting us. When your account is deleted, we delete or de-identify your account data, including your timestamp submissions, votes, reputation record, and user profile, except where limited records must be retained for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, backups, or dispute resolution. You can view your contribution history on the Contributions page and update your preferences at any time through Settings.
What We Don't Collect
- No browsing history beyond Netflix content you actively use Skipit on
- No payment or financial information
- No precise location data
- No advertising identifiers or third-party marketing trackers
- No data from non-Netflix websites
- No Netflix account password or Netflix payment information
Third-Party Apps and Credentials
Do not share your Skipit authentication cookies, Clerk session values, session IDs, API tokens, browser storage values, or other security credentials with third-party apps, scripts, dashboards, repositories, or configuration files. If you choose to provide those credentials to someone else, they may be able to access Skipit as you. Skipit is not responsible for third-party tools that collect, store, misuse, or leak credentials you provide to them.
Browser Extension Permissions
The Skipit Chrome extension requests the following permissions:
| Permission | Why We Need It |
|---|---|
| storage | Save your skip preferences and session locally on your device |
| activeTab | Detect when you're on a Netflix tab |

The extension uses data only for user-facing Skipit features such as authentication, Netflix content detection, skip preferences, timestamp retrieval, timestamp submission, voting, and tab state. Skipit's use of extension data is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Children's Privacy
Skipit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users through the web app. Continued use of Skipit after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
